I was looking for a short track around Zurich today. I came across the Birmensdorfer-Runde (see “Zurich”) which I bookmarked some time ago.

The tour is not too bad and has some interesting single trails you wouldn’t expect. Some are quite easy, some require some higher skills. The most difficult part is almost at the end, going down the Biketrail from Üetliberg.

I’ll definitely redo it, probably by night.

PS: At some point I didn’t find the path and had too drive around until I got it. Maybe I’ll get the correct path next time.

Short but hard tour. It starts quite ok, with a decent ascend. But soon it’ll be very steep. Especially from about the middle station from Parsenn until to the Panoramaweg it’s very hard. Rocky street and probably always more than 20%.

As soon as you get to the Panoramaweg you have about 7.5km of singletrails in front of you. After Schönboden it’ll go down, sometimes very steep as well until you reach some forest tracks to Davos.

Not for beginners.

From Davos to Clavadel up to Rinerhorn into the Sertig valley and back to Davos. From the beginngin you’ll deal with some easy singletrails to warm up. Shortly after Clavadel you’ll have the main part going up. But as soon, as you are on top shortly after Rinerhorn, the singletrail orgy will start! Great stuff from easy to somehow more tricky always on small hiking pathes! When arriving in Sertig you’ll just cross the street and soon be on singletrails again. The whole valley down you won’t have any large road.
On weekends there might be a lot of hikers on these trip, but just keep in mind to be polite and everything will work as you want!

Loved it!

Short but challenging trip! It’s going up quite steep (sometimes even too much). Starting with a large road you’ll reach a single trail going up after about 4km. You’ll stay on hiking trails until Marguns. The major part downhill is (unfortunately) on forest tracks.

Btw: Just before you start going up, there is a bike park on the left side, which looks quite difficult…

Did a short evening track today and tried a downhill trail I already knew (the one just north of “Leimbach” in the map, going down from Üetliberg).
I tried to run that trail going up. But at some places it was just too steep. At that time I thought “Wow, who the f*** cycles this path down?!?”. Today I did it and it was very fun!

BTW: It’s already getting dark very early nowadays :-( Aaargh.

Short but very hard and steep trip! There are always some nice single trails around, but be aware of the bumpy roads going up :-(
Until Strelapass the track is cyclable. Going to the Weissfluhjoch it gets harder and even steeper. So you might need to walk some parts (I did about 20min walk I think).
Soon after Weissfluhjoch it’s going down on a singletrail, which is quite rocky. You might be better off using a fully :-(

The downhill in direction to Wolfgang is not as nice as I thought. The first part is a walking tail which is very bumpy and steep, which means you need to walk again and again. Soon you’ll get on an unpaved road (no trail unfortunately) almost until Davos.

Last weekend Adrian and me went on a tour around Davos. We chose the path by using a Bikemap for Davos. There is a short part on the map, which says you should cycle that part in the opposite direction on the map. We ignored it. It was very steep (> 20%) for about 3km on an unpaved road! But it was doable and worth it.
There are great singletrails on the trip (about 30% of the whole track).

You could probably stay a little longer on the singletrail in the Sertigtal and drive to Sertig Dörfli instead of going down on a very steep bumpy unpaved road.
At the end you can fly down a paved road in order to try to get a new speed record.

Fantastic. I really loved this trail and can recommend it.
Be aware of the 3km very steep part just after Monstein though. The singletrails are all cyclable with a difficulty of 3.5 (max 5).

I chose a shorter biketrip this time as the Gigathlon and June are still in my legs.

As there were no reviews of this track I didn’t know if it was going to be good. It was!

The track has everything you want: short steeper uphills, flowing single trails, technical challenges, nice scenery, paved roads, unpaved roads, large and small pathes.

Probably about 20% of the track contains single trails. The first one going down to Biberbrugg is quite annoying because of not cyclable waterchannels though.

I started Richterswil with the sun but unfortunately stopped in a refuge because of too much rain. Fortunately it stopped after 10min and I could finish the trip.

It seems to be a growing problem when biker and hiker clash together. A sad story.
I was on a bike almost the whole june and must say I did not experience these kind of situations. On the contrary. The hikers I met were always very friendly, not rarely we even had a short talk together!

Unfortunately it seems to be a growing problem, as more and more pathes get biking restrictions. I met a biker on my cycling trip yesterday, who told me that the biketrails around the area (Sihlsee, Oberiberg) more and more were getting blocked by stumps or similar and that hikers usually were not that friendly…

If both parties do tolerate the other part with respect and dignity it shouldn’t be a problem! I’ll keep on staying friendly, decelerating near hikers and saying a big hello to everybody I meet. I had good experiences so far.

Ah yes and do not forget to close the cow fences after you (hiker and biker) so farmers will stay happy as well.

As I did quite a lot of cycling trips these days, I’ll only summarize them on a list for now. You’ll find all my trips on gpsies including a description, pictures and more information.

Depending on which source you take to get the elevation you’ll have different values. The values above do come from gpsies.
